Religion (Study of)
Religion is an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural field of study that addresses questions of belief, meaning, and value in human
society. Religious ideas and beliefs have historically been a source of tension and conflict, as much as they have been a source of artistic inspiration and profound reflection. As a religion major at Wells, you will explore both the social context of religious beliefs,  their historical development, and the way in which religious traditions affect people in their day to day lives. No culture can be fully understood without an understanding of its religious life and values.

One of the purposes of the religion major is to help you to develop a global perspective through the study of one of the basic forms of cultural expression.

Your political, philosophical, and even scientific explorations at Wells will be enhanced by your experience as a religion major. One of the goals of the program is to help you develop a more comprehensive understanding of different cultural experiences so that you are prepared for life in an increasingly multicultural society and pluralistic world. Enjoy your exploration!

The total number of courses required for the major is 15 (43-45 semester hours). At least six of these courses must be at the 300-level or above.
