| The
Wells College Women's Soccer Team
The
Wells College Soccer Team, coached by Chris Perkins, finished their 2003
season 4th in the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference and immediately
set their sights on getting involved with the development office in creative
ways.
The
Soccer Team Partners with the Annual Fund
Members of the Wells Soccer
Team volunteered to phone alumnae for two nights on behalf of the Annual
Fund. The callers scored an impressive 85 pledges, which brought in $10,285
in gifts to the college. But, perhaps more importantly, the soccer team
phoners allowed alumnae to connect with current students through discussions
on the importance of alumnae support for Wells. Students were excited
and a bit nervous about the opportunity to meet alumnae on the phone,
but by the end of their two nights, they were swapping stories about the
great people they had spoken with.
Coach Chris Perkins (who
also coached Wells lacrosse for ten years and now directs Intramurals and
the Physical Education Department) joined the team both nights, lending
a helping hand, and, yes, coaching the players during their calls. He and
the students enjoyed talking to recent graduates who had played soccer
and lacrosse during their college days, too.
Additionally, the soccer
team sponsored a Meet the Team night in a local fire hall and provided
the community with a spaghetti dinner and performances by both the Whirligigs,
one of two a capella singing groups at Wells, and a 3-member campus band.
The team hosted this event to raise extra funds for soccer team supplies
and new uniforms.
